How to Overcome Opiate Addiction: University Student With Opiate Problem, How Do I Quit?

Question by girlwithoutaplanet: University student with opiate problem, how do I quit?
HI! I am a straight A student with a moderate opiate problem (have been using for 4 months, on and off), when I try to stop I can deal with the mild physical symptoms, like aches and diarrhea (as my addiction is not severe), but the fatigue is so bad that I am pretty much catatonic during the day, so that makes me want to use just so that I can do my homework, study, etc. What can I do, I haven’t been able to stop for more than three days? Oh and coffee helps, but it gives me severe anxiety if I drink too much (since that too is a symptom of withdrawal and is exacerbated when I drink coffee). Any suggestions?

I was thinking of quiting during the reading week in February, will 7 days be enough? Again, any remedies for energy depletion?

THANKS!

A previous answer follows; use what helps: Many former heroin users say that methadone (synthetic heroin – diacetyl morphine) is even more addictive than the natural stuff.

Detox and rehab is the best way. Google: “heroin addiction; resources; (your location)

There are medications, like Naltrexone that may help. View http://www.addiction-treatment-centers.com/addiction-articles/suboxone-vs.-methadone

Try hypnosis, as shown*, and join a support group*; go there when the urge to abuse it occurs.

Read: Beating Heroin, by Neil Beck, from your bookstore, or amazon.com (enter “heroin addiction” in their searchbar) and view http://your-mental-health.weebly.com/6.html * about addictions. View http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=opiate+addiction

Hypnosis is merely a heightened state of suggestibility, in which you are better able to communicate with your subconscious mind.

85% of people are suggestible, to some degree, so you could either preferably seek professional hypnotherapy, or, if not an option, hypnosisdownloads.com has: Overcome Heroin Addiction + Cloud Nine.

Expect to feel bad for a few days, to a week. Codeine is derived from the opium poppy, as is heroin, so you could take it for a short while (see the label) if not using medications like naltrexone.

Have things to keep you occupied (if you are capable). Google “support groups; heroin addiction”. http://dailystrength may have some, or Myspace, Yahoo, or Google groups. ~~~

Begin switching to decaf; 10% more weekly.

Chinese ginseng boost energy levels. Google it.
