Have you ever read the description of the two areas of study in your Course catalog. That would be the place to start. I hope you understand you will not find work in your field without a masters so an MSW would be the way to go to have all your bases covered.

Drug Abuse Addiction: Which Drugs Is Harder to Come Off Adderall or Benzos(xanax,Ativan)?

Question by CAT: Which drugs is harder to come off Adderall or Benzos(xanax, ativan)?

Best answer:

Answer by Skee
I take both ativan and adderall for ADHD. Benzos and Stimulants are both very different drugs and have different “come off” feelings. Adderall is schedule 2, the benzos you listed are schedule 4. So the Feds think Adderall is significantly easier to abuse and poses a greater health risk. That’s a good start.

Personally: I wouldn’t want to “come off” of either. These drugs are prescribed for me to take daily as I have for the past 6 years.

Taking either regularly and then stopping will make “very bad things” happen. People will use words like “addiction” if you say it’s tough to quit. These are the same people who need to remember that nearly every anti-depressant (Prozac, etc) if suddenly quit being consumed cold turkey, suicide is not unheard of.

Alcohol Addiction Treatment: Where Did “Quiting It Cold Turkey” Come From?

Question by babam: where did “quiting it cold turkey” come from?

Best answer:

Answer by CyjCatherine
“Cold turkey” is an expression describing the actions of a person who gives up a habit or addiction all at once — that is, rather than gradually easing the process through reduction or by using replacement medication.

The etymology derives from the British colonists in the New World who would binge on cold turkey carcasses until they could not eat anymore. They had to give it up all at once or risk disease or death, hence the saying “I am giving up cold turkey.” . Some, however, believe the derivation is from the comparison of a cold turkey carcass and the state of a withdrawing addict — most notably, the cold sweats and goose bumps;[citation needed] It is often preceded by the verb “to go,” as in “going cold turkey.” Yet another suggestion of origin is that cold turkey is a dish that needs little or no preparation. “To quit like cold turkey” would be to quit in the same way a cold turkey is served, instantly just as you are without preparation.

Alcohol Abuse: Why Are Tobacco Commercials Banned but Alcohol Commercials Not?

Question by aG: Why are Tobacco commercials banned but Alcohol commercials not?
I was wondering why Tobacco companies have very little ways of advertising. I don’t personally smoke cigarettes or drink so I don’t lean towards a specific drug in this battle. However, I don’t understand why alcohol commercials shove advertisements down our throats at a constant rate. You guys have all seen the advertising and how present it is. I won’t argue which drug(alcohol or tobacco) is worse than you but alcohol has caused a significant amount of issues in today’s society and so has Tobacco.

-Why is alcohol usage welcomed in today’s society? (2000’s)
-Why were cigarettes/Tobacco welcomed back in the 40’s – 60’s but no so much anymore?

“The abuse of alcohol is one of the most pervasive social problems affecting our society. Alcohol advertising glamorizes and encourages that abuse”.
