Question by candigal: What comes to mind when you think of a “drug addict”?
Are “drug addicts ” bad people? Is drug use a choice? What is the eccomomic status of most people who use drug? What are some of the names people have for drug addicts? Do you think treatment works? How are “addicts” different then “non-addicts”? This is for an essay I am writing. Thanks for your help. Also do you think that there is a certain eithnic group that has a higher rate of substance abuse?

Best answer:

Answer by Hell’s Own Harlot
Drug addicts are not necessarily bad people. They lack self control and are under a notion that what they want must be gratified RIGHT NOW. They lack any type of concern for how their behavior effects others and personally, I consider it a slow suicide. Treatment only works if you want it to. You have to be motivated and most drug users aren’t. There are not any particular ethnic groups that are more prone to use than any other. You have losers in every race of people.

Definition of Substance Abuse: I Need This Paraphrased Please. I Don’t Know How to Paraphrase, and Online Help Isn’t Workin.?

Question by xXx_Cyber_Doll_xXx: I need this paraphrased please. I don’t know how to paraphrase, and online help isn’t workin.?
drug addiction and drug abuse, chronic or habitual use of any chemical substance to alter states of body or mind for other than medically warranted purposes. Traditional definitions of addiction, with their criteria of physical dependence and withdrawal (and often an underlying tenor of depravity and sin) have been modified with increased understanding; with the introduction of new drugs, such as cocaine, that are psychologically or neuropsychologically addicting; and with the realization that its stereotypical application to opiate-drug users was invalid because many of them remain occasional users with no physical dependence. Addiction is more often now defined by the continuing, compulsive nature of the drug use despite physical and/or psychological harm to the user and society and includes both licit and illicit drugs, and the term “substance abuse” is now frequently used because of the broad range of substances (including alcohol and inhalants) that can fit the addictive profile. Psychological dependence is the subjective feeling that the user needs the drug to maintain a feeling of well-being; physical dependence is characterized by tolerance (the need for increasingly larger doses in order to achieve the initial effect) and withdrawal symptoms when the user is abstinent.
Definitions of drug abuse and addiction are subjective and infused with the political and moral values of the society or culture. For example, the stimulant caffeine in coffee and tea is a drug used by millions of people, but because of its relatively mild stimulatory effects and because caffeine does not generally trigger antisocial behavior in users, the drinking of coffee and tea, despite the fact that caffeine is physically addictive, is not generally considered drug abuse. Even narcotics addiction is seen only as drug abuse in certain social contexts. In India opium has been used for centuries without becoming unduly corrosive to the social fabric.

Help for Cocaine Addiction: Should I Continue to Take Adderall? Is It Safe?

Question by : Should I continue to take Adderall? Is it safe?
I know how I started taking this drug was stupid, but it’s the truth and needs to be told. I was diagnosed with ADD years ago and was prescribed Adderall. I took it for a week and didn’t see much results, so it sat in my medicine cabinet for years. The pills had gotten wet and dissolved into powder during that time. When I found the powder, a friend of mine suggested that we snort it. I loved it. I felt focused, decisive and motivated.

Help With Drug Addiction: TIgers Woods to Go to Arizona for “Sexual Compulsion” and “Drug Addiction” Do You Think This Will Help?

Question by : TIgers Woods to go to Arizona for “sexual compulsion” and “drug addiction” do you think this will help?
His wife has already seen a high profile divorce attorney and is already filing the proper paperwork and is ending her marriage. She has bought a $ 1.2 million home off an island in Sweden and is leaving for someplace “warm” with the children for the Christmas holidays. She is no longer wearing her wedding rings. She is said to be asking for MORE than HALF his billion dollar assets. Why now would he decide to get help for sexual compulsion when it has already destroyed everything he has? Why not BEFORE it did? I love Tiger but he doesn’t seem to be doing things in the proper order…
He is looking for someplace he and “the boys” can go for the holidays??? Isn’t that strange with the position he is in???
