I hope you mean toxicology for forensics when they figure out the role of a drug in a crime.
job is like a pharmaceutical scientist. except your dealing with crime lab not research and dead people not patients.

it will take 6-8 because those jobs require a lot of knowledge because you cant have the wrong reasons for why someone died and stuff. probably a degree in chemistry will be best

side note: make sure its you passion because what ever the csi believe to have substance abuse they will require you to check it.(that means it can be waste a body part blood urine) so you cant get disgusted on the job.

and starting out doesnt pay high but that varies from where you work. but this career is fst pace and exciting and you will make a difference. good luck
