Chemical dependence is a miserable reality. The destruction of families and businesses, the violence and crimes committed by addicts to support their habits and, now, militant drug cartels – fueled exclusively by the staggering wealth provided by U.S. users – continues to grow.
The government has undertaken countless, costly measures to combat the problem and, though there has been *some* success, substance abuse counselors and even officers in the War on Drugs admit that the problem is only getting worse.
Is it time to take it to the next level? To fight the root causes and even do things many people (including myself) regard as abhorrent (I also consider war abhorrent, as do most who’ve fought in them)?
Substance Abuse Clinics
Substance abuse clinics like centers for detoxification are designed to treat both the psychological and physical aspects of drug-abusing patients These patients have suffered severe psychological and physical setbacks because of drug intake and the damage it has done to the brain and body chemistry. These clinics provide support and medical supervision during the first few days of treatment, since abstinence or withdrawal from an addicted substance can usually be physically consuming and dangerous.
Some clinics offer treatment for a particular substance addiction like opiates dependence, including marijuana, cocaine and heroin addiction, while some clinics specialize in alcohol abuse alone.
Various agencies provide residential treatments, outpatient treatment programs and hospital inpatient programs. Outpatient clinics provide health care treatment and support, and also offer services like individual, group or family counseling, psychiatric therapies, educational programs for public awareness and other intensive outpatient programs. Generally, they employ scientifically based assessment of the patient’s case and use effective therapies and adapt them for use in regular treatment settings.
