Recognizing Addiction: How to Tell if Someone Is Addicted to Alcohol or Drugs

Recognizing Addiction: How to Tell if Someone is Addicted to Alcohol or Drugs

There are a number of ways to identify if someone is addicted to drugs or alcohol. A change in behavior is often the first symptom of abuse. Often times, people addicted to drugs and alcohol become noticeably isolated in their personal behavior. Missing important family obligations and avoiding friends can be indicators. Additionally, consistent physical ailments like chills, nausea and vomiting can also be results of drug and alcohol abuse. If drug or alcohol abuse is suspected, seek professional help from an experienced physician right away to determine if there are any other outstanding physical issues. If a physician cannot come up with a physical diagnosis, seek council with a substance abuse professional. At Clarity Way, our caring professionals are well experienced with drug and alcohol abuse recovery. I Am a 23 Year Old Homosexual. Why Have I Completely Lost My Attraction to Men as Well as My Sex Drive?

Question by P.J.: I am a 23 year old homosexual. Why have I completely lost my attraction to men as well as my sex drive?
Hello and thank you for taking the time to help me solve this rather frustrating conundrum of mine. To go a bit further into detail: As I specified above, I am a 23 year old homosexual (living in New England if that’s of any relevance) who has recently discovered that he has lost all physical, psychological, emotional, etc. attraction to men (even toward those individuals which I once found entirely appealing) as well as my overall sex drive (I have absolutely no desire or ambition to have intercourse; the notion/ambition to do so has not crossed my mind in what seems like months now). The last time I actually had any physical involvement with another individual was with my previous partner back in October (October 29th, 2009 to be precise and that act not actually being intercourse). As far as full intercourse is concerned, I believe the last time it occurred was in August of 2009 with that same person. In the past I have always had a very healthy and insatiable sexual appetite and a strong attraction to a wide variety of men (meaning I didn’t have once specific type, but rather found attractiveness in a wide range of men). Be that as it may, I have only had three partners in my life, the first be my high school “sweet-heart” if you will, the second one I would meet at 18 and marry a year and a half later in Boston, MA, separate at the age of 22 due to irreconcilable differences between the two of us (and by two of us I am also referring to the slew of 18 year old trollops he so blatantly and notoriously paraded around town with while my back was turned), the last of which I met a year and a half ago and only recently parted ways with after discovering that he was not only secretly bi-sexual, 40 years old when he had always stated he was in his early 30’s (either way I wouldn’t have cared as I prefer older men and have never dated anyone in my age bracket), had a wife and three children along with an affinity for cheap prostitutes and prescription pain killers (dishonesty, infidelity or substance abuse are not what I would consider to be ideal qualities in a partner and aren’t exactly synonymous with commitment, longevity or happiness). It goes without saying that, as a homosexual male bearing witness to what seems to be the common place tendencies of most gay men today, that I hold much disdain for their inability to remain faithful and loyal to their partners. However, this is something I always kept in the back of my mind and was aware of from a very young age yet I always had hope and was able to still see potential in other men after a breakup (making me doubt that it is this dissatisfaction for such promiscuity which has eradicated my attraction to the male species and my sex drive as a whole). Sorry for the lengthy description, I am quite troubled by all of this and have a horrible tendency to ramble when I’m the slightest bit perturbed. I appreciate any help and hope that these words find anyone that happens to read them well and in good health. Sincerely, Yours Truly.
