Symptoms of Addiction: How to Communicate More Effienciently With People That Have to Be Right on EVERYTHING?!?!?

Question by junglecubs: How to communicate more effienciently with people that have to be right on EVERYTHING?!?!?
Hellooouu, so do you ever run into the types of people where they have to prove their point on -everything- where its not apparent to why ? Of course they’re a why for them but it makes conversation confusing. And you don’t understand what they are saying about their “point”, because it doesn’t really relate to what you’re talking about (the thing that was brought up at first).

Do Pessimists Make “better” Philosophers?

Question by ‘Cuz I said so.: do pessimists make “better” philosophers?
at least in modern times, many of the great philosophers were drunks, depressed, suicidal, or all of the above. it seems to make sense because happy people don’t feel the need to question the purpose of their existence. they don’t feel the need to ask what is the point of life, if most of their time is spent suffering. or the need to ask where everything came from, or if there is a hell or not, in case they feel like hanging themselves. for them, ignorance is bliss, and their bliss might in part cause their ignorance.
can anyone name a truly optimistic philosopher who is known throughout the world? I’m not claiming that they don’t exist, I just haven’t heard of any that I know to be optimistic.
note: religious leaders aren’t philosophers.
happy people might dilute themselves, by coming up with irrational beliefs. ever notice how happy people usually try to avoid deep conversations? they’re afraid they might learn something.
woosie, what makes you think happy people have found their answers? maybe they ignore the questions. ignoring the questions is emptiness. if they haven’t ignored the questions, and have found their answers, then they would have more to say than religious leaders, psychotherapists, and self-help/motivational speakers.

Medical Marijuana Use and Consequences…?

Question by Plogsties: Medical marijuana use and consequences…?
The following appeared in the medical literature:

“Physicians Who Use Marijuana are ‘Unsafe to Practice’
Kate Johnson
Oct 29, 2012

MONTREAL, Canada — Physicians who legally use medical marijuana to treat their own debilitating conditions such as chronic pain or nausea are considered unsafe to practice medicine in the state of Colorado until such time that they no longer need the treatment, according to a policy from the Colorado Physician Health Program.
“We took a conservative stance,” Doris Gundersen, MD, Medical Director of the Colorado Physician Health Program, told Medscape Medical News after her presentation here at the International Conference on Physician Health (ICPH). “We don’t want to deny them treatment…but until they no longer need it, or we have better ways of correlating impairment, they can’t practice.”
She said Colorado is the first state to come up with such a policy, prompted by reports of physicians who were legally using the substance. “The medical board appealed to us about how to manage this, there were several physicians referred and we happened to see they were also using marijuana — they had legitimate [Medical Marijuana Registry identification] cards,” she said.
“This is where we got a little nervous. All of the associate medical directors at the Colorado Physician Health Program are psychiatrists and addiction specialists, and we recognized very quickly that this may not be compatible with practicing medicine safely…. We don’t want physicians excluded from treatment that they need, but at the same time we need to protect the public,” Dr. Gundersen said.”
