What Is an Opiate: Why Do So Many Philosophers Concentrate on the Downside of Beliefs, Stating They Make Men Close Minded?
Question by Easy Does It: Why do so many philosophers concentrate on the downside of beliefs, stating they make men close minded?
Beliefs can limit man’s ability to logically see truth, but man shall always be trapped in such a way. Why not see the bright side of beliefs, in the fact that they allow men to act and communicate? All we can do is believe in tolerating others beliefs as best as we can, and accept our own beliefs as a part of who we are.
I’m actually not talking about religious beliefs. I’m talking about beliefs which support our very way of thinking; the more general term “belief” which regards our ability to understand what we perceive.
EP: Isn’t it absolute to say that our field of vision is always restricted to what validates our belief? After, how else do our beliefs change? We welcome all sorts of things in when we believe, because our belief system is actually quite complicated. There is room to just say that humans can believe what they wish and still be open-minded. If they can’t, that is their own fault.

If you’re talking about religious beliefs, the issue is that they’re not true.
