Addiction Counseling: How Many Years of School Do You Need to Become a Substance Abuse and Behavioral Counselor?
Question by Olivia: How many years of school do you need to become a substance abuse and behavioral counselor?
Also, not a school counselor. I want to work with adults and teenagers but I didn’t know I would have to go to school for almost eight years? Is this true? Did my school counselor have to go to school for that long too?

“While on-the-job training is often provided, some employers prefer candidates that have a bachelor’s degree or higher in psychology, sociology or a related subject along with two years of counseling in a related field or equivalent life experience such as being a former drug addict or performing volunteer work. Some substance abuse counselors have a master’s degree in mental health counseling. Numerous colleges provide associate degree programs for counselors which usually take two years to complete. The programs include training in drugs and alcohol. Some of the programs offer training in crisis intervention.

What Is an Opiate: Why Do So Many Philosophers Concentrate on the Downside of Beliefs, Stating They Make Men Close Minded?
Question by Easy Does It: Why do so many philosophers concentrate on the downside of beliefs, stating they make men close minded?
Beliefs can limit man’s ability to logically see truth, but man shall always be trapped in such a way. Why not see the bright side of beliefs, in the fact that they allow men to act and communicate? All we can do is believe in tolerating others beliefs as best as we can, and accept our own beliefs as a part of who we are.
I’m actually not talking about religious beliefs. I’m talking about beliefs which support our very way of thinking; the more general term “belief” which regards our ability to understand what we perceive.
EP: Isn’t it absolute to say that our field of vision is always restricted to what validates our belief? After, how else do our beliefs change? We welcome all sorts of things in when we believe, because our belief system is actually quite complicated. There is room to just say that humans can believe what they wish and still be open-minded. If they can’t, that is their own fault.
How Do You Know When You’re Addicted?
by Whatsername?
Question by Alexis: How do you know when you’re addicted?
My boyfriend says hes addicted to cigarettes. He says hes tried to quit, but he can’t. I think it is a bunch of bullsh*t. I know that if I really wanted to stop something I could in a heartbeat. So, my question is, how do you know when you become addicted and I just don’t understand why you can’t just stop smoking?

How to Date a Recovering Heroin Addict?
Question by Ally: How to date a recovering heroin addict?
I met this guy about a month and a half ago and we hit it off right away. He took me on dates at least 4-5 times a week, wouldn’t let me pay for anything, opened my door… Just an all around gentleman. Before I met him I had been single for nearly 3 years. We dared for about 3 weeks and then we decided to make it official. Everything was going great until I showed at his work to surprise him cuz he said he was working and it turned out he was lying, he wasn’t even on the schedule for that day. I called him out and he told he me he had to tell me something….. In a million years I would have never guessed that he would ever say what he said next, “I’m a recovering heroine addict.” I guess when he said he was working, he was actually at a meeting with his sober living group. This guy was the nicest guy I ever met and he was the last person I ever expected to lie to me or hurt me. He then told me he had been sober 7 months and he lives in a sober living home. He had been through a 3 month rehab treatment and passed as well. He said that he kept putting off telling me because he wanted me to get to him for him, not judge him because of his dark past. So my dilemma now is do I stay with him and believe him or should I cut my losses and not risk the heartbreak? I really like this guy, he treated me so well and we got along perfectly… I’m not sure if I want to let go of that.
