Opiate Addictions: Can Anyone Recommend a Pain Management Clinic in Orange County, CA?
Question by Jay: Can anyone recommend a pain management clinic in Orange County, CA?
I have been dealing with a shattered kneecap and torn ligament for about 5 months now. Even though I have not asked for a higher dosage (10/325) and have made “6-Day Supplies” last for 9-10 days every time, my doctor has cut me off. (Kaiser) A month ago, he even told me he expected the pain to continue for another 4-6 months, yet here I am, with no meds……
I am in excruciating pain all the time. I can’t sleep, I can’t work.
What I would like to find is a pain management clinic run by compassionate people. At this point, I wouldn’t even mind getting mixed up with shady characters if it would help me sleep… If you know of one in my area, or even in LA, I would appreciate a heads up. Thanks..
I have tried tramadol, which gave me a bad reaction, and i have tried ibuprophen. please note that my question was not “can you recommend any meds for me?” if you don’t have an answer that directly relates to my question, please don’t waste your time or mine. thanks…

I think perhaps you should not be putting your physician on such a high pedestal. Ask him the question, since he does not have the proper training and skills to see you through this obvious an injury, perhaps he could suggest a colleague who can. Since he obviously does not have an expertise in the prescribing of opiods (which he obviously doesn’t since he cant rx anything stronger than REGULAR strength Vicodin (even the majority of the extra strength formula is mostly Tylenol) there must be someone on staff trained in the proper use of these medications. After all most doctor visits involve pain to some extent and since this is not a vaccine (his specialty, I suppose) you would like to see a member on staff that is qualified to help you with this problem or refer you to some one outside that does have the required skills.
Sorry I don’t know anyone in Orange County, but at least it’s not going to snow and be in the 20’s anytime soon. We all have our crosses to bear. But make him ashamed that his oath is just for show and billing purposes, crush his god complex, hit him where he lives which is near the intersection of hypocrisy and incompetence, and if he caves with acceptable analgesia have word about your serious doubts that once he stops the pain and you are healed that he will properly taper your dose, rather than putting you in cold turkey agony, which is nothing more than to invite a un-housebroken gorilla to climb up your back for the next several years, so he can say “I warned you about addiction”
If he puts you on a long acting opiate drug such as OxyContin (there are many like it) fore him. Those drugs are for long term chronic pain. You have a short term injury to recover from or a post operative situation and those drug are meant for neither, another invitation for King Kong to visit lovely temperate Orange County at your expense.
I am sorry not to give you a direct answer to your question, but good pain doctor has many facets and there really is a specialty involved in prescribing them to a patient and then removal from a patient and half knowledge is something yo.u can find on any street corner..
