Since 1997, sales of Oxycontin and four other leading brands of painkillers are up 90 percent, officials said. Addiction to painkillers such as Oxycontin can happen in a matter of weeks, WESH 2 News reported. A man who asked to be identified as “Steve” is getting counseling for an addiction to painkillers. They go by familiar names such as Vicodin and Oxycontin. and because they are in medicine cabinets and sold in stores, the painkillers overtaking old street drugs.
