Drug Rehab for Teenagers: How to Convince My Parents to Let Me Go to the Beach With My Friends?
Question by CuriosityKilledTheDumb: How to convince my parents to let me go to the beach with my friends?
My family is strict. I’m not sure of the exact reasons, but I have some possible ones.
For one, my uncle was smart & innocent, but when his parents (my grandparents) and my dad (his older brother) started telling him to get out of the house (because he was always inside, never went out), he started getting into a lot of trouble. They lived in Massachusetts at that time. They allowed him to go out whenever with however much money he wanted without questioning him. Eventually, he got involved with the wrong people & started drugs. He behaved badly in school. He stole from stores (little things, got caught a couple of times, got in trouble with the cops), he was a teenage guy that was in the wrong crowd. And now, at 24, he’s still involved with drugs after being an outpatient at rehab, has a baby with an ex girlfriend, and he’s been kicked out of our house (living here is my grandparents, my parents, my uncle, aunt, brother, sister, cousin, and me). After he was kicked out, he was living in this “abandoned” house the belonged to a family friend that didn’t live there anymore. So two days after being kicked out, my grandparents bought him a box of chips (those box that contain different kinds of chips), and a pack of water bottles. And that morning at about 10am, he walked out to this little plaza thing that had like a grocery store, little stores, a gas station, McDonald’s, and a bank. He handed the bank teller a note demanding money. So he robbed a bank and just walked away. Later, he was taken to jail. After trial, they sentenced him to only 6 months in jail because he was high while robbing a bank. Personally, I dislike him, I wished he had been sentenced to at least 7 years.. He’s taken over thousands of dollars from his own mom for his drugs. He’s taken money from all of us. He’s taken money from even a 10 year old. So I believe that’s one possible reason they don’t allow me to go out.
Another possible reason is because of the “ghettoness” of where we live. We live in a place where there are kids in my middle school already into sexual stuff, and who do drugs. If they start this young, that means their parents must be bad influences too. And my fobby asian family are really racist.. So, they say things likke, “Oh, you’re gonna be raped, murdered, kidnapped, eaten, etc.” That’s because they watch some asian news from a different state.
I know half of you are going to tell me to be responsible & good. That’s the problem, I am. I’m have amazing grades. But as asian parents, a 3.9 is hideous.. So I have pretty much all 4.0’s. I don’t do drugs. I don’t have sex. I dont’ have a boyfriend. I don’t steal from them or anywhere. I don’t do what people say the “average teenagers” do.
But it’s not like I’m going to be roaming the streets by my self. I just want to go to the mall with my friends, or go to their house, and sleep over, and simple things like that. The only times I can go to a friend’s house is when it’s a birthday party. If it’s a sleep over, then I’m only allowed to stay during the day part. The only time I have gotten to sleep over was with my asian best friend whose brother is babysat by my grandma. And that was with her mom calling my dad to persuade him to let me, that was the one & only time I have slept over.
My usual days just include waking up, going to school, coming home to my family, eating, sleeping, and repeat, and repeat, and repeat, and blah. I think my dad replaces letting me out by spoiling me and my siblings. I mean, he bought us an above ground pool, a basketball hoop, our own tv, our own desktop (that recently past away), a laptop, our own smart phones (my sister is only 10 and she has the Samsung Focus Flash), and a bunkbed.
I’m turning 14 this year, I just want some freedom. Any help?

Tell them.. “I am a responsible and good kid, don’t you trust me to let me go somewhere? I feel happy but so trapped. Stir-crazy, even. Don’t you believe in me at all?”
