Drug Addiction Issue — Please Help?

Question by marie: Drug addiction issue — please help?
We have a family member who is addicted to street drugs. He is going to a 3 day detox (may be there now). Problem is there is no money for a “program” and no health insurance. No one has the money – nor have property to even get a second mortgage. Do you have ANY IDEAS of how you can get help without paying? He will die if he doesn’t get help. The drugs have him bad. He will take ANYTHING he can get his hands on and any possible way he can. He wants help finally. Meetings alone are not going to help him. He needs at least a 30 day program but probably in bad enough shape to really need a long term program. Do any of you have any suggestions out there? I know there are different ways to get aid. We just don’t know who can aid him. He is not a person who is close enough to me personally to be my problem or concern but I do care.
1. I do not live close to this person
2. HE DOES WANT HELP (see question)
3. We are in Florida
I went thru this with my oldest son too. This is his father – court appt. programs are only for people who have committed a felony and relating to drugs.
Yes, my son’s father – my son is 26. This is my ex-husband but I do care about the family.

Heroin Addiction – Help and Healing Are Possible

With the increase in the numbers reported by drug treatment centers, heroin addiction is becoming an epidemic and happens to anyone, regardless of age, gender, faith or socioeconomic status. The addiction has the propensity to ruin lives and is one of the most difficult forms of substance abuse to beat.

Heroin is a drug responsible for one out of every ten suicides, either by someone having an addiction or because of the drug being used indirectly. With the many statistics available it can be surprising that the drug is still one of the most common of all new addictions and people continue abusing and using at record rates. Question by who knows: petra thank you for your fast fast answer… and very good… but?
how does one “treat” addiction? i know there’s aa, but altho he was a member for many years, he won’t go any more. is there truly a “treatment” for addiction if he’s not drinking any more? he refuses to see counselors that have been provided for free by the state of texas, or that are paid for by myself. and he’s the one who asked me to set up the appoinment. when i did and paid for the intake, he said he wasn’t going to go.

thanks for your feedback.
